Strengthening connections to build healthy communities
Our goal is to heal the disconnect that has been growing in our communities over the past generation.
People feel lonely and report they have no close friends.
The Niemöller Project was inspired by the quote of Pastor Martin Niemöller called "First They Came."
In order to stand up for others who are vulnerable, we need to care about them.
But the world is full of vulnerable people. How can we have the bandwidth to care for all those in need?
We can't do this alone.
As we expand our connections, we can expand our sphere of influence and strength our bandwidth as a whole.
We offer ideas for simple, yet powerful acts of kindness that fortify relationships of trust amongst our neighbors. As these bonds grow, we can unify our resources and attention to tackle larger issues.
"If we're unified, there is nothing we cannot do." -Ray Nagin
Small and simple acts can make a world of difference.
One way to begin is by fostering an environment of exchange amongst our neighbors.
We suggest building relationships of trust with our neighbors one small step at a time.
"Our neighbor texted about borrowing a cup of sugar. I told her to come on over as I got one ready for her.
When she rang the bell, my teenager answered the door. My neighbor told my kid she had come to borrow a cup of sugar.
My kid turned to face me as I approached the door with a confused look on her face. She blurted out: 'People still do this?!'
I responded by saying: 'Yes! When you foster these types of connections!'
I love that we look after one another in our neighborhood. It makes me feel safe and connected."
